New PET tracer could spot rare brain tumors without surgery
NCT ID NCT07177482
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study is testing a new radioactive tracer called 68Ga-MY6349 to see if it can help diagnose craniopharyngioma, a rare brain tumor, using PET/CT scans. The tracer targets a protein called Trop-2, which is often found on these tumors. Twenty participants with suspected or confirmed craniopharyngioma will receive one injection of the tracer and then undergo imaging. The goal is to see if the tracer can accurately detect the tumor and measure Trop-2 levels, potentially offering a non-invasive alternative to surgery for diagnosis.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
68Ga-MY6349 (a radioactive tracer for PET imaging)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a non-invasive way to diagnose craniopharyngioma and assess Trop-2 expression, potentially guiding treatment decisions without needing a biopsy.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-phase study (20 participants) focused on imaging, not treatment. The tracer may not reliably distinguish craniopharyngioma from other conditions, and results may not generalize to larger populations.
