Summary
This study aimed to understand how having multiple chronic diseases affects the immune system in older adults. Researchers measured a specific immune marker in the blood of 81 hospitalized patients over age 75. The goal was to separate the effects of normal aging from the effects of having several ongoing illnesses on a person's ability to fight disease.
