Breakthrough drug opens door to transplants for patients once considered untransplantable

NCT ID NCT07379957

Summary

This study is reviewing the results of using a drug called imlifidase for adult kidney transplant patients who are 'highly sensitized,' meaning their immune systems have developed many antibodies that make finding a compatible donor extremely difficult. The drug works by temporarily clearing these harmful antibodies, allowing a transplant from a deceased donor to proceed even if there was initially a positive crossmatch (a sign of incompatibility). Researchers will analyze data from 450 patients to see how well the transplants worked and how safe the treatment was over the long term.
