Engineered immune cells take aim at stubborn solid tumors

NCT ID NCT07672483

First seen Jun 29, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This trial tests a new approach for people with solid tumors that have returned or not responded to standard treatments. The therapy uses the patient's own myeloid cells, a type of immune cell, which are genetically modified in a lab to produce a cancer-fighting protein called IL-12. After a short course of chemotherapy to prepare the body, the modified cells are infused back into the patient. The goal is to see if these cells can safely attack tumors and at what dose they work best.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

IL-12 GEMys (genetically engineered myeloid cells)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a new treatment for hard-to-treat solid tumors by using the body's own immune cells to fight cancer.

What could go wrong

This is an early phase 1 trial with a small number of participants, so safety and effectiveness are not yet proven. The treatment involves chemotherapy and cell infusion, which carry risks like infection and organ damage.
