Smart cap could help glaucoma patients never miss an eye drop again

NCT ID NCT07664943

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a smart cap called iD2 that fits on eye drop bottles. It tracks when you remove the cap and sends reminders to your phone if you forget a dose. The goal is to help people with glaucoma take their drops more regularly, which can prevent vision loss. About 100 adults who have trouble remembering their drops will try the device for a few weeks.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

iD2 smart eye drop cap monitor (device)

What this could lead to

If it works, this device could help glaucoma patients stick to their eye drop schedule, potentially preserving vision and quality of life.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with no blinding or control group. The device only tracks cap removal, not actual drop delivery, and results may not apply to all patients.
