Scientists probe hidden slime in ICU tubes for deadly infection clues

NCT ID NCT04926493

Summary

This study aimed to better understand a dangerous lung infection called ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in intensive care patients. Researchers closely examined the sticky layer of germs (biofilm) that forms inside the breathing tubes of 61 patients on ventilators. The goal was to see if specific features of this buildup are linked to a higher risk of developing this serious infection.
