Doctors use ultrasound to predict when ICU patients can breathe on their own

NCT ID NCT07405567

Summary

This study aims to better understand how the breathing muscles work in ICU patients with pneumonia who are trying to come off a ventilator. Researchers will use a bedside ultrasound machine to take pictures and measurements of key breathing muscles daily during the weaning process. The goal is to see if these ultrasound measurements can help doctors predict which patients are likely to succeed or fail at breathing on their own.
