ICU feeding fight: can scheduled meals beat muscle wasting?
NCT ID NCT03587870
Summary
This study is testing if feeding critically ill patients in scheduled meals (intermittent bolus) is better than the standard continuous drip feeding at preventing dangerous muscle loss. Researchers will compare the two methods in 68 ICU patients to see which one helps patients reach their daily protein target faster and better preserves muscle mass. They will measure muscle size with ultrasound and take small tissue samples to check for differences after one week.
