Could jaw movements replace invasive tubes for ICU breathing checks?

NCT ID NCT07441590

Summary

This study aims to see if tracking a patient's jaw movements can accurately measure how hard they are working to breathe, as an alternative to the current standard method which requires placing a tube down the throat. It will involve 50 adult ICU patients who are breathing on their own but are at high risk of struggling when taken off a ventilator. The goal is to find a simpler, more comfortable way for doctors to monitor breathing effort and predict if a patient is ready to breathe completely on their own.
