First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This pilot study tested a mobile app called iCanChange in 100 young adults (ages 18-35) with psychosis and cannabis use disorder. The app uses motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques through short interactive modules. The main goal was to see if the app is acceptable and feasible to use, not whether it actually reduces cannabis use.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

iCanChange mobile app (behavioral intervention using motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral therapy)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a practical, app-based tool to help young people with psychosis cut down on cannabis use.

What could go wrong

This is a small pilot study (100 participants) focused on feasibility, not effectiveness. The app may not lead to lasting changes in cannabis use.
