Scientists hunt genetic clues to unlock mystery of IBS food triggers

NCT ID NCT05795049

Summary

This study aims to understand if a genetic problem with digesting certain sugars and starches is a common cause of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) symptoms like pain, bloating, and diarrhea. Researchers will compare the genes of 2,000 people with IBS to people without symptoms to see how often this genetic issue occurs. The goal is to gather knowledge that could one day lead to personalized dietary advice or treatments based on a person's specific genetic makeup.
