Could rice formula be a safe alternative for kids allergic to Cow's milk?
NCT ID NCT07197814
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing whether a new formula made from hydrolyzed rice proteins is safe for infants and young children (1–36 months) with IgE-mediated cow's milk allergy. In a double-blind test, children will receive either the rice formula or a placebo, then be monitored for allergic reactions. If no reactions occur, they will drink the rice formula exclusively for 7 days at home. The goal is to see if this formula can be labeled hypoallergenic, offering a new option for families managing cow's milk allergy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- hydrolyzed rice protein formula
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could provide a safe, hypoallergenic formula option for children with cow's milk allergy, reducing reliance on more expensive or less palatable alternatives.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small early-stage trial (29 children) with no control for long-term safety. Some children may still react to the rice formula, and results may not apply to all allergic children.
