Can pressurized oxygen boost stroke recovery?

NCT ID NCT07049692

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber (hyperbaric oxygen therapy) helps people recover better after a stroke. About 424 adults aged 35-75 who had a stroke and received endovascular treatment will be randomly assigned to get either hyperbaric oxygen sessions or standard care. The main goal is to see if more patients achieve functional independence 90 days later.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

hyperbaric oxygen therapy

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a new way to help stroke patients recover better after standard treatment.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage trial with no phase, so results are uncertain. The therapy is time-consuming and may not improve outcomes for everyone.
