Old drug tested for Kids' rare, deadly lung condition

NCT ID NCT03822780

Summary

This study tested whether hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), a medication with anti-inflammatory properties, could help children with a rare, serious lung disease caused by specific genetic mutations. The trial involved 25 children with this condition to see if HCQ could improve their breathing and reduce their need for supplemental oxygen over time. Researchers hoped to find a better treatment option for a disease that currently has very limited management choices.
