Hydroxychloroquine fails to impress in rare autoimmune disease trial

NCT ID NCT04316494

First seen May 05, 2026 · Last updated May 06, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether adding hydroxychloroquine to standard treatments could help control ANCA vasculitis, a group of autoimmune diseases that cause inflammation in blood vessels. The trial planned to include 76 adults with mild disease activity, but was stopped early after enrolling only 43 participants. Participants took either hydroxychloroquine or a placebo for one year, and researchers tracked disease flare-ups and steroid use.
