Trial tests if 'Steroid Withdrawal' fatigue can be treated

NCT ID NCT05193396

Summary

This study aims to see if a low-dose steroid (hydrocortisone) can help people who feel very tired and unwell after they stop taking stronger steroids for conditions like polymyalgia rheumatica or giant cell arteritis. It will involve 100 patients who have recently finished their main steroid treatment. For 16 weeks, half will receive hydrocortisone and half will receive a placebo (dummy pill), and neither the patients nor the doctors will know who gets which, to fairly compare the effects on fatigue and quality of life.
