First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study tests a new method called the Huaxi Tunnel Technique to protect the nerve that controls the voice box during thyroid surgery. The technique uses a fluid injection to create a safe tunnel around the nerve, which may reduce bleeding and nerve damage. Researchers will compare this method to standard surgery in 700 adults having open thyroid surgery for the first time. The goal is to see if it lowers the risk of hoarseness and other voice problems after surgery.
