Can a vaccine and a urine test tame HPV16?

NCT ID NCT07407569

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is testing whether the Gardasil 9 vaccine can reduce the infectivity of HPV16 virus in women who already have the infection. About 50 women aged 18-45 will receive two doses of the vaccine, and researchers will use urine samples to measure virus activity and immune responses. The goal is to see if the vaccine can lower the virus's ability to infect cells and to develop a non-invasive way to monitor this.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Gardasil 9 vaccine

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that the Gardasil 9 vaccine reduces HPV16 infectivity and help develop a simple urine test to monitor vaccine effects.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase study with only 50 women, so results may not apply to everyone. The vaccine is used off-label, and the main goal is to test a new urine-based method, not to prove clinical benefit.
