Simple HPV test before hysterectomy could stop cervical cancer before it starts

NCT ID NCT07545525

First seen Apr 26, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study checks if testing for high-risk HPV before a subtotal hysterectomy (removing the uterus but keeping the cervix) can prevent cervical cancer. About 300 women scheduled for this surgery will get an HPV test; if positive, they'll have a cone biopsy to remove any precancerous cells during the same operation. The goal is to catch and treat early changes before they turn into cancer.
