Birth control pill withdrawal: how long until hormones normalize?
NCT ID NCT06802211
First seen Apr 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study looked at how long it takes for a key stress hormone (cortisol) and its carrier protein to return to normal after healthy women stop taking combined oral contraceptive pills. Twenty-four women were followed for several weeks after stopping the pill. The goal was to understand the timing of hormone recovery, which can help doctors interpret lab results and guide care.
