Scientists track how gut processes key nutrients
NCT ID NCT06082726
Summary
This study aimed to understand how the body absorbs short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which are important nutrients produced by gut bacteria. Researchers tested 13 healthy volunteers to see if delivering these acids to the small intestine versus the colon changed how much entered the bloodstream. Participants took special capsules on different days, and their blood was drawn regularly to measure the acid levels.
