Can your mind change how you feel Others' pain? brain scan study investigates

NCT ID NCT07367672

Summary

This study explores how what we believe can change our experience of 'empathic pain'—the discomfort we feel when seeing someone else in pain. Researchers will give 120 healthy adults either a real nasal spray, a fake (placebo) spray, or no spray, but tell everyone they are getting a pain-relief treatment. While in a brain scanner, participants will watch videos of people in pain and rate how much pain they think the person feels, to see how belief and the spray affect both their ratings and brain activity.
