Scientists probe why older bodies struggle to use protein from food
NCT ID NCT06553794
Summary
This study aimed to understand how the aging gut processes protein. Researchers compared 12 healthy young adults with 12 healthy older adults to see if changes in the digestive system affect how protein is broken down and absorbed. They collected tissue samples and other measurements to learn why older adults might need more protein in their diet to maintain muscle and health.
