Scientists map the hidden world of hospital germs

NCT ID NCT01933620

Summary

This study aims to understand how the trillions of bacteria living in and on our bodies change when people are hospitalized. Researchers will collect daily samples from 250 patients during their hospital stay and for up to two years afterward to see if these changes make patients more vulnerable to hard-to-treat infections. The goal is to gather information that could help hospitals prevent infections in the future, but this study itself does not provide treatment.
