Hormone shield: could progesterone and testosterone guard against dangerous heart rhythms?

NCT ID NCT04675788

First seen Mar 31, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study looked at whether the hormones progesterone (in postmenopausal women) and testosterone (in older men) can reduce heart rhythm changes caused by certain medications. 73 participants took either the hormone or a placebo, then received a small dose of a heart-rhythm-altering drug to compare effects. The goal was to see if these hormones could protect the heart, not to treat a disease.
