Honey vs. steroids: can a sweet paste soothe chronic mouth pain?
NCT ID NCT06988527
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a honey-based paste against a standard steroid ointment for treating painful mouth sores caused by oral lichen planus. Fifty-six adults with erosive or atrophic lichen planus will use the paste daily for four months. Researchers will track symptom improvement, pain levels, and quality of life to see if honey can be a gentler alternative.
What this could mean

What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a natural, low-cost alternative to steroid treatment for managing oral lichen planus symptoms.
