First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This small study looked at whether it is safe for mothers to hold their infants while they receive cooling therapy for a type of brain injury called hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). Ten babies were enrolled, and researchers checked for problems like the baby getting too warm or medical tubes being moved. Parents and nurses also answered questions about how holding affected bonding and stress.
