Antarctic study tests breast milk sugar for immune boost

NCT ID NCT06133530

First seen Apr 03, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study looks at whether human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs), a key ingredient in breast milk, can help adults living in Antarctica stay healthy. The harsh environment can weaken the immune system and affect metabolism. Researchers will give some participants HMO supplements and others a placebo, then track changes in gut bacteria, immune function, and blood sugar over several months. The goal is to see if HMOs can prevent or reduce these negative effects.
