New injectable HIV meds show promise for kids and teens
NCT ID NCT03497676
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This study tested the safety and tolerability of long-acting injectable HIV medications (cabotegravir and rilpivirine) in 168 children and teens whose HIV was already well-controlled. Participants received oral doses first, then switched to monthly or every-other-month injections. The goal was to find the right dose and see if injections were acceptable. This approach helps manage HIV long-term, but is not a cure.
