Can a tailored program help young men overcome stigma and test for HIV on their own terms?
NCT ID NCT06238323
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study adapts an existing HIV prevention program, Many Men Many Voices, into a version called LAFIYA for young sexual minority men living in slums in Ghana. The goal is to reduce stigma and increase the use of HIV self-testing kits. Researchers will test whether the program is acceptable, appropriate, and feasible for this group.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
LAFIYA (behavioral intervention)
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could help reduce HIV transmission in a high-risk, underserved population by making testing more accessible and less stigmatized.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention is behavioral, and its impact on actual HIV rates is not yet measured.
