Can a smartphone app help prevent HIV after jail release?

NCT ID NCT04036396

Summary

This study tested whether a smartphone app called GeoPassport, combined with peer mentor support and small rewards, could help men and transgender women leaving jail access important health services. The goal was to see if this approach helped people get HIV prevention medication (PrEP), get tested for infections, and connect to substance use treatment more effectively than standard referrals alone. Researchers followed 233 participants in Los Angeles for 9 months to compare the two approaches.
