Could an HIV drug stop anal cancer before it starts?

NCT ID NCT05334004

Summary

This early-stage study is testing the safety of a topical version of an HIV medication (lopinavir/ritonavir) applied inside the anus. The goal is to see if it can treat high-grade anal precancer (AIN 2/3) in people living with HIV, which can develop into anal cancer. Researchers will first find the safest dose and then check if the treatment helps clear the precancer and the HPV virus that causes it.
