Heated chemo showdown: one round or three for rare belly cancer?
NCT ID NCT07328737
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether giving three rounds of heated chemotherapy directly into the abdomen after surgery works better than just one round for people with pseudomyxoma peritonei, a rare cancer that spreads in the belly. About 132 adults will be randomly assigned to one or three treatments. Researchers will track survival, side effects, and quality of life over several years.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC)
What this could lead to
If more cycles work better, this could establish a more effective treatment schedule for pseudomyxoma peritonei, potentially improving long-term survival.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-stage trial with 132 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. Extra chemotherapy cycles could increase side effects like infections or organ damage.
