New hip block could match gold standard for Post-Surgery pain

NCT ID NCT06964282

First seen May 11, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two types of nerve blocks—the standard PENG block and a newer iliopsoas plane block (IPB)—for pain control after hip replacement surgery. About 118 adults will receive one of the blocks before surgery, and researchers will measure pain during movement 6 hours later. The goal is to see if the IPB works just as well, which could give doctors another good option for helping patients recover with less pain.
