Nerve block vs. IV drugs: the battle for better hip fracture pain relief

NCT ID NCT06862154

Summary

This study tested which method works better for quickly reducing severe pain from a broken hip in the emergency room: a targeted nerve-block injection or standard intravenous (IV) pain medication. Researchers compared an ultrasound-guided injection that numbs the leg nerve (femoral nerve block) against an IV dose of the strong painkiller fentanyl. The goal was to see which provided faster, more effective pain relief with fewer side effects before surgery.
