Can short bursts of intense exercise beat moderate walking for back pain?
NCT ID NCT07645859
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares high-intensity interval training (HIIT) with moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT) in 80 adults aged 20-48 who have had non-specific low back pain for over 12 weeks. Participants will be assigned to either brisk walking/jogging intervals or steady normal walking for 6 weeks. The goal is to see which approach better reduces pain, disability, and improves quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
exercise training (brisk walk/jog or normal walk)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that high-intensity interval training is a better option than moderate walking for easing chronic low back pain and improving daily function.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 80 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Exercise programs also require consistent effort, and some people may find high-intensity training too challenging.
