New MRI technique could prevent unnecessary brain surgery for benign tumor
NCT ID NCT04285125
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether ultra-high-resolution MRI can more clearly identify a rare, benign brain tumor called MVNT. Currently, standard MRI may leave the diagnosis uncertain, leading some patients to undergo surgery for a harmless growth. Researchers will scan 33 adults with suspected MVNT and compare standard and advanced MRI images over two years to see if the new technique improves diagnosis.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to more accurate MRI-based diagnosis of MVNT, sparing patients from invasive brain surgery for a benign lesion.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage observational study (33 people) focused on imaging, not treatment. The ultra-high-resolution MRI may not significantly improve diagnosis over standard scans.
