New MRI technique aims to uncover elusive epilepsy triggers

NCT ID NCT06550726

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether high-resolution MRI can find subtle brain lesions that cause focal epilepsy but are missed by standard scans. Researchers will scan 66 adults with drug-resistant epilepsy and compare results to surgical findings. If successful, this could improve diagnosis and help guide surgery for better seizure control.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could make it easier to find hidden brain lesions in people with focal epilepsy, leading to better surgical decisions and possibly seizure control.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study (66 people) focused on diagnosis, not treatment. The advanced MRI may not always find lesions, and results may not apply to all epilepsy patients.
