New study aims to find best breathing support for heart failure patients after ICU

NCT ID NCT06671015

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tests whether a high-flow nasal cannula (a device that delivers warm, moist oxygen through the nose) works better than non-invasive ventilation (a mask that helps push air into the lungs) to prevent the need for re-inserting a breathing tube in people with systolic heart failure. About 50 adults who have been on a breathing machine for over 24 hours will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments after the tube is removed. The main goal is to see which method reduces the chance of respiratory failure or needing the breathing tube again within 72 hours.
