Doctors probe stomach valve during surgery to predict recovery

NCT ID NCT04450628

Summary

This study aims to understand how hiatal hernia repair surgery affects the tightness of the valve between the esophagus and stomach. Researchers will measure this valve's stretchiness during surgery in 25 patients and then check if those measurements relate to patients' heartburn symptoms or swallowing difficulties after recovery. The goal is to gather information that might help improve future surgical outcomes, but the surgery itself is not changed based on these measurements.
