Hidden stomach patches in your throat: could they be causing swallowing trouble?
NCT ID NCT07510984
First seen Apr 18, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This observational study is recruiting 721 adults who are already scheduled for a routine upper endoscopy. Researchers want to see if a small patch of stomach-like tissue (called heterotopic gastric mucosa or HGM) in the upper esophagus is linked to swallowing difficulties, indigestion, and lower quality of life. Participants will fill out questionnaires before their procedure, and doctors will check for HGM during the endoscopy. The study does not provide any treatment, but aims to better understand how common and how bothersome HGM might be.
