New ultrasound technique aims to improve skin cancer surgery outcomes

NCT ID NCT07361666

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether using a high-frequency ultrasound before surgery for common skin cancers on the head and neck can help surgeons remove the entire tumor the first time. About 400 adults with basal or squamous cell skin cancer will be in the study. Some will get the standard skin exam before surgery, and others will also get the ultrasound. The goal is to see if the ultrasound leads to fewer cases where cancer cells are left behind and lowers the chance of the cancer coming back within 5 years.
