Ultrasound before skin cancer surgery may cut recurrence risk

NCT ID NCT07361666

First seen Jan 24, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looks at whether using high-frequency ultrasound before surgery for common skin cancers on the head and neck can help surgeons remove the entire tumor the first time. About 400 adults with basal or squamous cell skin cancer will be checked either with a standard skin microscope alone or with an added ultrasound. The goal is to see if ultrasound reduces the chance of leftover cancer cells and lowers the risk of the cancer coming back within 5 years.
