Ancient herbs, modern relief? a patch takes on heel pain
NCT ID NCT05584046
First seen Aug 12, 2026 · Last updated Aug 13, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether a new patch made from traditional Chinese herbs (CDAM) can reduce pain and improve function in people with plantar fasciitis, a common cause of heel pain. About 120 adults with heel pain lasting over six weeks will receive either the herbal patch or a standard ketoprofen patch. The study measures changes in foot pain, disability, and limitation using a validated questionnaire.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- A topical herbal patch (CDAM) containing Carthami Flos, Dipsaci Radix, Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, and Herba Menthae
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this patch could offer a natural, non-invasive option for relieving plantar fasciitis pain and improving foot function.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is relatively small and early, and results may not show a clear benefit over the standard patch. Herbal ingredients can also cause skin irritation or allergic reactions.
