New study tests misoprostol to cut bleeding in fibroid surgery

NCT ID NCT06882824

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tests whether a single dose of misoprostol, a medication often used in gynecology, can reduce blood loss during surgery to remove uterine fibroids (myomectomy). About 80 women aged 18-43 with symptomatic fibroids will receive either misoprostol or a placebo before surgery. The goal is to see if this simple, well-tolerated drug can make the operation safer by lowering the risk of heavy bleeding.
