Ancient gout drug may protect modern heart valves

NCT ID NCT07411768

Summary

This study is testing whether a low daily dose of colchicine, an anti-inflammatory drug, can prevent blood clots from forming on new artificial heart valves after TAVR surgery. About 116 older adults (ages 60-85) who have had successful TAVR will be randomly assigned to take colchicine plus standard care or just standard care for one year. Researchers will use special CT scans to compare clot rates between the groups and monitor for side effects.
