Heart surgeons test simple clip to slash stroke risk

NCT ID NCT03724318

Summary

This study is testing whether closing a small pouch in the heart, called the left atrial appendage, during planned open-heart surgery can reduce the risk of future strokes. It involves 1,500 patients who are having heart surgery for conditions like blocked arteries or valve problems, whether or not they have a history of atrial fibrillation. The goal is to see if this extra surgical step provides long-term protection against brain damage caused by blood clots.
