Summary

This study tested whether a drug called dexmedetomidine, given during surgery, could help protect patients' memory and thinking skills after open heart surgery. Researchers compared the drug to a placebo in 32 patients. They measured brain function and a blood marker of brain cell injury to see if the drug made a difference.
