Heart stent technique showdown: which method saves more lives?

NCT ID NCT00914199

Summary

This study compared two techniques for placing heart stents when arteries branch. Researchers wanted to know if doctors should perform extra balloon inflation through the main stent into the side branch when blood flow looks acceptable. 477 patients with coronary artery disease were randomly assigned to receive either the extra balloon treatment or standard treatment, then followed for up to 5 years to see which approach led to fewer heart problems and repeat procedures.
