MRI maps could sharpen treatment for deadly heartbeat disorder

NCT ID NCT04694079

Summary

This study tested whether using detailed MRI scans of heart scar tissue could improve a procedure called catheter ablation for dangerous, fast heart rhythms (ventricular tachycardia). Researchers compared three approaches across 104 patients in Italy: ablation guided directly by the MRI scar map, ablation aided by the MRI map alongside standard electrical mapping, and the standard approach without MRI. The goal was to see if the MRI-guided methods were more effective at preventing the irregular heartbeats from coming back.
